Lapeer East High School named among Newsweek's elite American high schools

Lapeer East High School is now listed among the elite high schools in Michigan and the United States with its addition to the Top 1,500 high schools as chosen by Newsweek.com Internet magazine.

The listings are based on Advanced Placement test performance, population of the student body, size of the graduating class and the number of AP tests taken. The schools on the list represent the top 6 percent of all high schools in the country.

Lapeer East is one of only 35 Michigan high schools included on the list, which includes Andover in Bloomfield Hills; Athens in Troy; East Grand Rapids; East Lansing High School; Ernest W. Seaholm in Birmingham; Farmington and North Farmington; Forest Hills Central in Grand Rapids; Grosse Pointe North and South; Huron in Ann Arbor; Lahser in Bloomfield Hills; Okemos; Pioneer in Ann Arbor; Walled Lake Northern and Central; West Bloomfield; and Wylie E. Groves in Beverly Hills. A complete list of the Michigan schools can be found on the Newsweek.com website here.

Lapeer East made the list with the second highest free and reduced lunch numbers in Michigan. It is the only school in Lapeer, Genesee and northern Oakland County bordering Lapeer County that made the list.

“We are proud of the achievement of our students, staff and administration at Lapeer East High School for the work they have done and in making this exclusive list,” said Superintendent Debbie Thompson.
