LCS Michigan Merit Examination scores continue rise

Lapeer Community Schools’ students met or exceeded State average Michigan Merit Examination scores in all but one subject and improved its own year-over-year scores in all, but one, content areas in 2009.

In social studies, Lapeer students scored five percent higher than the State average; in reading Lapeer students were four percent higher; in English Language Arts, students bested the State average by two percent; in Science by one percent; was at the State average in Math and was one percent below the State average in writing.

More encouraging was the continued improvement in scores year-over-year from 2007 to 2009.

Reading scores were five percent higher in 2009, five percent higher in Writing, four percent higher in English Language Arts, one percent higher in Math, even in Science and one percent lower in Social Studies.

“While we are pleased by the continued improvement in overall test scores we continue to focus on increasing achievement for all students as we move forward with our curriculum and teacher professional development,” said Kim Seifferly, Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction.

Lapeer East, Lapeer West science rooms undergoing major remodeling - update

Zemmer teachers visit Rolland-Warner, custodians work together to clean new school

Although there is a lot of work yet to be done, much of the interior and exterior construction work at Rolland-Warner Middle School is complete.

A small group of teachers stopped over Wednesday morning, July 29th, to organize their classrooms and prepare for fall classes.

A team of custodians is working hard to clean up after 14 months of construction work at the new facility. They stopped briefly for a photo. They are (left to right) Alex Ancona, John Wilson, Dennis King, Tim Tovar, Janeen Hornung, Pete Haggadone, Greg Koski, Dave Peasley, Gary Tripp, and Ernie Saltzman. Camera shy, or missing from the team photo were: Willie Behm, Joe Palazzolo and Pat Hutton.

While at the campus we shot a photo of the new gymnasium that is shined to a high gloss and just waiting for those first students to arrive.

New photos of Zemmer construction work


Late last week, new photos were taken of the construction work at the Zemmer Junior High School campus. Outside grading and interior demolition are well underway.

Lapeer East grad signs with Concordia University, two West girls play in softball tourney

If you missed it there is a story in The County Press about Lapeer East grad Paul Neumeyer signing to play soccer at Concordia University.

Also a story in The County Press about Lapeer West softball stand out players and graduates Emily Jones and Bridget Miller playing in the Michigan High School Softball Coaches Association All-Star Game in East Lansing recently.

Congratulations to these students.
