Registration is now underway for Enrichment classes offered through the Lapeer Community Schools. Classes are beginning, but there is still time to register.
Popular classes that still have a few openings include:
Computer 101, a beginner class with a slower-paced, step-by-step overview of computers and related components. The class meets Monday & Wednesday, February 7 and 9, from 6:00 – 7:30 pm at The Rolland-Warner Computer Lab. Fee is $25.
Computer 102, a follow-up to Computer 101will be offered Monday & Wednesday, February 28 and March 2, from 6:00 – 7:30 pm at the Rolland-Warner Computer Lab. Fee is $25, or you can enroll in both 101 & 102 for $45.
MORE Knowledge is a follow-up to Computers 101 and 102 and meets Monday & Wednesday, March 14 and 16, from 6:00 – 7:30 PM in the Rolland-Warner Computer Lab. Fee is $25.
Cindy’s Senior Fitness meets Mondays and Wednesdays, from 2:45 – 4:15 pm on January 31, February 2, 7, 9, 14, 16, 23, 28, March 2, 7, 9, 14, 16, 21, 23, 28 at the Community High School at Cramton, Gym, 1220 Lake Nepessing Road, Lapeer. Course fee is $75/or $55 with a Lapeer Gold Card.

Get fit: Winter Walking begins Nov. 1
The annual Lapeer Community Schools FREE winter walking program begins on Monday, November 1.
Join us at Lapeer West on Monday through Thursday nights from 5:30 to 7:30 pm as we walk for fitness and fun! Our quick registration is easily completed the first night you attend.
ALL walkers will wear a name badge (provided) while walking. Children under age 16 must walk with an attending adult. SORRY, no power walking, running or jogging. Please enter the high school using the door by the band room on the south side of building.
No walking on November 24 & 25, December 22 – January 2, January 17 & 20, February 21or “snow days.” If school closes earlier in the day because of inclement weather, the walking program is cancelled.
The walking program concludes on Thursday evening, March 31st.

Sign-up underway for popular Super Babysitter class
The popular Super Babysitter class will be offered next month by the Lapeer Community Schools Enrichment Program in a two-session program for students 12 and older.
Instructor Gloria Sherman and super sitter students, both boys and girls age 12 and older, discuss important safety issues and first aid, nutritious snacks, diapering, bottle preparation, and fun-filled games in this two-week course.
Helpful tips include advertising techniques and how to determine what wage to charge.
The two-week class runs Monday Nov. 1 and 8 from 6:30 to 8 pm at a city school location.
The fee for the class is $20, or 2 students for $30, and it includes a Certificate of
Completion.

Advanced Sitter, Youth Golf enrichment classes offered through spring enrichment
Advanced babysitting classes and a youth golf class for boys and girls in grades K -7, are being offered through the Lapeer Community Schools Spring Youth Enrichment Programs.
Young men and young women with at least some babysitting experience are invited to take an Advanced Sitter class on Monday, April 19, that will prepare them for overnight or family travel babysitting jobs. Basic CPR will also be taught. The class is excellent for achieving scout badges or 4-H requirements.
An Advanced Babysitting Certificate will be issued upon successful completion. The two-hour class which begins at 6:30 p.m. will cost $20 a person or 2 registrants can enroll for $30. The class is taught by Mrs. Gloria Sherman and will be held at Rolland-Warner Middle School, 333 DeMille Boulevard in Lapeer.
Young people interested in learning golf are invited to register for a program taught by professional instructors. Students will be taught the fundamentals (grip, stance and swing); long game (drivers and irons); and short game (pitching, chipping and putting).
The course, which will be held in one-hour sessions on Wednesdays, April 14, 21, 28 and May 5 at 6:15 p.m. in the Murphy Elementary School gym, 1100 Pratt Road in Metamora Township, will also teach the finer points of etiquette and rules. Top-of-the-line junior clubs and safe foam balls will be used for this indoor class.
Cost of the four sessions is $55.

Enrichment programs: Fun for young and seniors
The District, through its Enrichment Catalog, offers a variety of programs to the community.
The popular senior fitness program meets Monday and Wednesday from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the new Lapeer Community High School gymnasium at the Cramton campus, 1220 Lake Nepessing Road in Elba Township. Cost of the program is $60, or for seniors 60 and older within the Lapeer District the class is $40 with the Lapeer Gold Card.
The fall program ends on November 18th, but is scheduled to return in the winter.
Starting Monday, November 2nd, the free winter walking program begins at Lapeer West High School from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, except during holiday weeks and on “snow days.” The program continues through Thursday, March 25th. For further information on this program or the “closed” days contact the LCS Enrichment Office at (810) 538-1622. Please do not call Lapeer West about this program.
A Snowmobile Safety Certification class is scheduled for Thursday, December 3rd from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Rolland-Warner Middle School.
The snowmobile class is a home study course with classroom follow-up. A Michigan Snowmobile Safety Certificate, which allows persons 12 years of age and older, to operate a snowmobile without adult supervision, will be awarded to students who successfully complete the course and pass a written test.
Pre-registration for this course is required. The deadline to register for the course is Wednesday, November 25th. Cost is $25 per person, or two people from the same household for $45.
