Lapeer Community Schools’ students met or exceeded State average Michigan Merit Examination scores in all but one subject and improved its own year-over-year scores in all, but one, content areas in 2009.
In social studies, Lapeer students scored five percent higher than the State average; in reading Lapeer students were four percent higher; in English Language Arts, students bested the State average by two percent; in Science by one percent; was at the State average in Math and was one percent below the State average in writing.
More encouraging was the continued improvement in scores year-over-year from 2007 to 2009.
Reading scores were five percent higher in 2009, five percent higher in Writing, four percent higher in English Language Arts, one percent higher in Math, even in Science and one percent lower in Social Studies.
“While we are pleased by the continued improvement in overall test scores we continue to focus on increasing achievement for all students as we move forward with our curriculum and teacher professional development,” said Kim Seifferly, Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction.
