Superintendent Debbie Thompson praised by school leaders in annual evaluation

Superintendent Debbie Thompson has provided strong leadership as the Lapeer Community Schools face tough economic times, the Board of Education said.

The Board praised the Superintendent as it presented the results of her annual evaluation during the regular board meeting on Thursday, April 1, 2010 at the Administration & Services Center.

As a result of the evaluation, the Personnel Committee will recommend to the full Board that Mrs. Thompson’s contract be extended another year.

The Board evaluated the Superintendent based on anonymous input from school principals, union leaders, the Central Office Leadership Team and individual Board of Education members.

“After careful analysis of all of the input from the individuals referenced above, I am pleased to announce that Mrs. Thompson has again received high marks in virtually all aspects of her evaluation,” Board President William Laidlaw said as he presented the results of the evaluation. “Thank you, Mrs. Thompson, for continuing to provide the kind of leadership that was again so favorably acknowledged by your peers and contemporaries at all levels of the District.”

The Board of Education reviews the performance of the Superintendent each year to ensure a consistent assessment and maintain accountability.

“I would again like to extend a hand of thanks and praise to each of the bargaining units, members of the administrative staff, principals and fellow Board of Education members for having participated in this necessary and worthwhile process, in this, one of this District’s most challenging and difficult years,” Mr. Laidlaw said.
