West and East students perform A Christmas Carol

Drama students from both Lapeer West and Lapeer East High Schools will perform Peter DeLaurier’s adaptation of A Christmas Carol November 19-21 at the Lapeer East High School Auditorium.


Doors will open at 6 pm on Friday and Saturday and 1 pm on Sunday for a special event: Cast members will be singing carols, and snacks will be available for a small donation.

Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students and senior citizens. Curtain time is 7 pm Friday and Saturday evening and 2 pm on Sunday afternoon.


Faithful to Dickens' beautiful language, this flexible adaptation of the beloved Christmas classic tells the heartwarming story of miserly Ebeneezer Scrooge. Mr. Scrooge is always cold-hearted, and Christmas is no exception -- that is, until the ghost of his deceased business partner, Jacob Marley, comes to warn him about the consequences of living a life of greed and materialism. Over the next three nights, Scrooge is visited by three other spirits who try to convince him that his selfishness will be his downfall. Is this enough to make the selfish old miser change his ways?

The play is produced by special arrangement with Playscripts Inc.

Little Shop of Horrors comes to East Stage this weekend

A man-eating plant intent on ruling the world may sound like an old science fiction movie, but it’s actually the star of this Broadway musical, “Little Shop of Horrors.”

The Lapeer High School Drama Club will present “Little Shop of Horrors” at the Lapeer East Auditorium at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, May 7th and 8th and 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 9th. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students, seniors, and children.

The Lapeer High School production is directed by Jennifer DeWitt and Bill Spruytte, who have co-directed for the past two years. Student assistant director is Kyle Schmude. “Little Shop of Horrors” features fantastic music by Howard Ashman and Alan Menken, the same duo that created “Beauty and the Beast” and “The Little Mermaid” for Disney.

However, make no mistake; “Little Shop of Horrors” is not exactly Disney. The Lapeer High School version of this production carries a PG-13 rating.

Timid, Seymour Krelbourn discovers an exotic plant with a strange appetite for blood and brings it to the florist shop where he works. As the plant begins to grow quickly, so does its hunger for human flesh and blood. Seymour, who is secretly in love with his co-worker Audrey, names the plant Audrey II and strikes up a deal to feed the plant (flesh and blood) in exchange for fame and fortune.

The Lapeer High School production features Matt Schneider as Seymour. Audrey is played by Wei Li Crawford. Audrey II is voiced by Kevin Roach. Orin, Audrey’s sadistic boyfriend, is played by Lucas Cosens. Dylan Dahring plays the role of Mushnik, Seymour’s boss. Audrey II’s backup singers are played by Monique Morris, Leyna Burel, and Liz Smith. Rounding out the cast are, Brandon Turcott, Paul Eastman, Victoria Mullins, and Miranda Sanborn as Skid Row residents.

Music Director for the show is Cheryl Burnside, Ben Motter is technical director, and Becky Prohaska is choreographer.

"Eddie West" concert at Country Club set to help Lapeer High School Drama Club

Eddie West, a music group mainly made up of Lapeer West current and former teachers and their families, will perform its musical magic in support of The Lapeer High School Drama Club at the Lapeer Country Club, 3786 Hunt Road, from 7:30-11 p.m. Saturday, May 22.

Tickets are $10. A light food menu will be offered and the Country Club has a cash bar. There will also be prize drawings.

Students will be selling tickets at the May 7-9 performances of “Little Shop of Horrors” in the Lapeer East High School Auditorium.

Tickets are also available in the offices at Lapeer East and Lapeer West High Schools and will also be sold at the door on the night of the performance.

Money raised at the event will go to fund future sets and productions of the combined theater arts students at Lapeer East and Lapeer West High School.

Lapeer High School Drama Club brings 'Dracula' to life on Lapeer East stage

Bram Stoker’s classic book, “Dracula,” will come to life again on the Lapeer East High School Auditorium stage on October 29th, 30th and 31st.

Students from Lapeer East and Lapeer West will treat audiences to a thrilling adventure that’s filled to the brim with romance, bloodlust, and blind terror throughout Dracula’s Castle. The entrancing tale will have the audience clinging to the edges of their seats by the sheer genius of the actors and the surreal storyline.

Ticket prices are $7 for adults. Senior citizens, students and children are $5. Performances on Thursday and Friday, October 29th and 30th will be at 7 p.m. and the Saturday matinee, October 31st, will be at 1 p.m. Tickets are available at the door and will be sold starting an hour before each performance.

Lapeer High School Drama Club cast members include: Lucas Cosens, Matt Schneider, Zachary Fick, Alex Giddings, Katy Peacock, Caitlin York, Haley Ward, Nick Lucchesi, Dylan Dahring, Jesse McKelvie, Bridget Stemm, Miranda Sanborn, Monique Morris, Brittney Walker, and Brennah Donahue.

“Dracula” is co-directed by Jennifer DeWitt and William Spruytte with the help of student assistant director Steven Hoffa, and is generously supported by the parents and staff of Lapeer East and West High Schools as well as the Lapeer community at large.

'Fiddler on the Roof' opens Friday at East

The Lapeer High School Drama Club will present “Fiddler on the Roof” on Friday, April 17th, Saturday, April 18th and Sunday, April 19th, at the Lapeer East High School auditorium, 933 S. Saginaw St. in Lapeer. Showtimes are 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.

In a small village called Anatevka, Tevye, a poor dairyman tries to inspire, in his five daughters, the traditions of his tight-knit Jewish community in the face of changing social values and the growing anti-Semitism of Czarist Russia.

“Fiddler On The Roof” has touched audiences across the globe with its humor, warmth and honesty. The universal theme of tradition speaks to all people regardless of race, class, nationality, or religion. It will leave audiences crying from joy and sadness!

The production features many talented students from East and West High Schools including Lucas Cosens as Tevye and Sara Keys as Golde.

Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students, children and seniors. Tickets are available one hour before showtime.
