Lapeer East, Lapeer West art students excel at Young Artists Today show

Art students from Lapeer Community Schools once again exhibited their talent as seven students from Lapeer East and Lapeer West High Schools walked away with awards at the Young Artists Today Show held at the Flint Public Library.

Lapeer East students, Morgan Williams, senior, won a second place, and Ariana Donahue, a sophomore received third place in the show.

Honorable mention awards were received by East student senior Holly Osentoski, and West students Drew Dabrowski, junior, who won two awards, Samantha Dahnke, senior, Nikky Mobley, junior, and Lindsy Barrow, senior.

“We are proud of the awesome talent of the art students and their teachers in our District,” said Superintendent Debbie Thompson.

Lapeer West students win "Young Artists" awards at Delphi Glass Show in Lansing

Five Lapeer West High School art students won awards at the Delphi Glass Show in Lansing in the Young Artists’ Category.

Emily Korleski took first place and won a kiln valued at $450 and glass. Drew Dabrowski won third place and won a fusing glass pack valued at about $300.

Kris Zalewski, Lindsy Barrow and Samantha Dahnke received glass packs and books for their participation.

“Each year, the staff at Delphi is amazed at the work of the glass students from Lapeer West,” said teacher Ms. Jeanine Smith. “I think this speaks for the incredible K-12 art program K-12 that Lapeer Schools are so fortunate to have”

The students received their awards at the show opening reception on Sunday, March 29th. The show continues through April at Delphi Glass, 3380 E. Jolly Road in Lansing.

East, West students excel at Lansing art competition, move on to Kalamazoo

Three Lapeer high school students, one from East and two from West, will have art on display at the Michigan Youth Arts Festival in Kalamazoo May 7-9.

The judging of the student art started at a show at Gallery 194 last month.

Artwork by Lapeer East student Travis Cushaway and West students Samantha Dahnke and Emily Korleski survived additional judging in East Lansing on March 7 to be selected for the Festival.

“Congratulations to all of these very talented young artists,” said East teacher Debbie Helbig.

Also, Abrianna DeBono, a Lapeer West 8th grader, had her painting chosen in the top 100 for middle school students in the Michigan Art Education Association competition in Lansing.
