Board appoints Wendy Byard as new trustee

The Lapeer Community Schools Board of Education has unanimously appointed Wendy Byard to fill the vacant trustee position on the board.

Byard will serve the remainder of the term of board member Bill Laidlaw, who resigned last month to take a job out of state. That term runs through June 30, 2012.

Byard is an English professor at Mott College. She has three daughters who attend Lapeer Community Schools.

Byard holds both a master’s and bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University. She is also the author of the book “Teach and Reach for Classroom Miracles.”

She is a former English teacher at North Branch High School, and prior to her career in education was an advertising and marketing account executive for ad agencies in Chicago and Ann Arbor.
