The Lapeer East girls' volleyball team scored a big win, its fourth tournament championship this season, in the Ann Arbor Pioneer Invitational over the weekend.

Lapeer West Girls' Golf team completes undefeated season, heads to State Finals

A school record team score to win the State Regional Golf Tournament and a second consecutive trip to the Girls’ Golf State Finals topped off a great week for the Lapeer West golf team.

On Thursday, October 8th, the team won a second consecutive trip to the State Finals next week with a school record 365 to win the State Regional Golf Tournament.

Earlier this week the team won the Flint Metro League tournament to complete an undefeated Flint Metro League season.

It was the third consecutive season that Catherine Benscoter was a league medalist. Benscoter shot a 79 to win the individual championship in the FML tournament.

“I am proud of the efforts of Catherine and all the team members in working as hard as they did to make this a successful season,” said Mike Ogg, the Panthers’ coach. “What a great week to go undefeated and win the regional all in the same week.”

In addition to Benscoter, the Panthers’ team is made up of Kim Brown, Haley Byard, Kate Carlson, Elizabeth Rodela, Lauren Weeks and Lindsay Yateman.

Website offers audio broadcast of Friday's Lapeer West vs. Linden varsity football game

The Michigan Regional Sports Network is featuring a web audio broadcast of Friday's varsity football game between Lapeer West and Linden High Schools.

Both teams are unbeaten and are seeking the outright lead in the Flint Metro League.

The broadcast can be found at mrsn.us starting at 6:50 p.m.

Work on new auxiliary gym waits for climate change

Work on installing the new hardwood athletic floor in the Lapeer West auxiliary gymnasium is on hold until humidity conditions improve.

Exhaust fans are in place to help the concrete drying process and the hardwood supplies are in the gym waiting for the proper conditions.


Annual Murphy "Fund Run" provides exercise and resources for school activities

Students at Murphy Elementary School participated in their annual Fund Run on Tuesday, October 6, 2009.

Each year students seek pledges and then run laps on a course behind the school to help raise money for school activities.

Each grade participates for about 45 minutes with the help of parent volunteers and teachers.

Zemmer construction moves onward and upward

Real changes can now be seen at the former Zemmer Junior High School site. Construction on the expansion and modernization of the building are well underway.

Masonry work will transform not just the appearance but the size and utility of the new Zemmer Middle School.

The Hero Construction Company paid a visit to Mr. Romoslawski's eighth grade Social Studies class on Tuesday, September 29. The class learned what it takes to be a hero by making better decisions on a daily basis.

Fans from Lapeer East and Lapeer West proudly displayed their team spirit during the Friday, September 25, football game at East. The close game ended in an 18-15 victory for the Lapeer West Panthers.

Lapeer County students learn to soar at Dreams and Wings day on September 26




Several students from Lapeer high schools volunteered their time helping out at the Dreams and Wings event at the Dupont Lapeer Airport on Saturday, September 26. Dreams and Wings provides Lapeer County students and their families a chance to learn about airplanes and how they fly.

Several Lapeer East Marching Band alumni members got a chance to relive high school when they joined the current Lapeer East Marching Band during half-time of Friday's Homecoming game against Kearsley High School.

Science Alive makes a stop at Turrill Elementary School



Science comes to life for kindergarten students in Mrs. Papke's class at Turrill Elementary School on Friday, September 18. Science Alive instructor Mrs. Neill introduced the class to a tortoise, a snake and an armadillo along with a few other animals during the visit.
